I have been a private tutor for many years now. I really enjoy the one-on-one individual support that tutoring offers. One of my main teaching goals is to continuously build a strong rapport with each student. I strive to get to know each student on an individual level so that I may better understand his/her interests, motivations and learning style(s). I makes sure to instill confidence into young learners by building their self esteem through positive reinforcement. I believe this initial foundation creates a learning environment paved for success. I am currently a Kindergarten - 2nd grade teacher for students with special needs in a NYC public school. I am looking for some tutoring to do on the side in Long Beach after school hours. I am trained and certified in the Orton-Gillingham approach of teaching reading/phonics, which uses multisensory strategies to help students who need help/reinforcement in reading, writing, spelling, phonics, and comprehension.
